Description
Historically, circular wreaths of fresh or dried flowers, twigs, branches, etc., have been popular throughout time all over the world. Wreaths can be seasonal or timeless, have specific meanings, or just be a unique display of personal tastes and interests. They can be made of fresh flowers, or dried, and they can be decorative or culinary.
Depending on where you look, you’ll find a variety of origins for wreaths. In ancient Egypt the wreaths were worn on the head. In ancient Greece, they were awarded to athletes who were victorious in the Olympic Games. Young lovers also hung wreaths on their doors as an expression of their love. In ancient Rome, they were given as a mark of honor, to civil officials and warriors returning from battle. In Italy during the Renaissance, they wore wreaths of festive occasions. In Victorian England, a floral wreath would surround the chair of the guest of honor at a banquet. The circular shape and evergreen material symbolize eternal life in some religious cultures. Christians would hang one on their doors to invite the spirit of Jesus into their homes.
Check our Events page regularly, as we will be scheduling workshops for Floral Wreath Making!
