When nature doesn’t play fair, it’s time to sit down with this hot, or iced, tea!
This herbal blend contains supportive herbs when seasonal allergies come calling.
Also, eating for the seasons might include DHA and EPA, two types of healthy omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish and other sources. Certain nuts, such as walnuts and flaxseeds, also contain omega-3 fatty acids; however, plants contain the ALA chain, which simply facilitates the production of EPA and DHA in your body. Quercetin, a flavonoid found in green leafy vegetables such as broccoli and kale are also a good choice.
Tea leaves need room to expand for extracting full-bodied flavor. This is one reason we use organic cotton tea bags instead of tea balls which are not really best for tea brewing. Many standard tea bags and/or tea balls, are low-flow, and require stirring and dunking repeatedly to get the tea to diffuse properly. We believe you get more flavor, more goodness, and more aroma when using roomy, organic, reusable tea bags.
That said, our preferred method for brewing tea is placing loose herbs in vessel with already hot water, steep for 10 minutes, or so, and pour finished tea through mesh strainer into cup.
Directions for 1 cup:
Bring 8 oz water to a boil in stainless steel, glass, or ceramic vessel (not aluminum). Turn off heat. Place one teaspoon loose tea per cup of water into hot water vessel, or into enclosed reusable tea bag, pulling strings tight. Steep for 10 minutes. Strain loose tea, or squeeze & remove tea bag & pour. Add honey or cream if desired. Compose spent herbs and wash cloth tea bag for reuse. (If making larger amount, steeped tea will keep in refrigerator up to two days in glass jar with lid.)
Caution: Not for use if pregnant, nursing, or taking interferon, anticholinergics, or other prescription medications. Consult your health care practitioner before using these herbs if you have diabetes, lupus, multiple sclerosis or rheumatoid arthritis. Giloy can lower blood sugar levels and can over stimulate the immune system.
