Studies have indicated that tooth powder can be more effective at removing plaque and stains than toothpaste. “From the current study, it may be concluded that tooth powder has been shown to be statistically superior to toothpastes in controlling dental plaque and gingivitis”. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28862466/
De-mineralization is the weakening of the enamel that preludes damage such as cavities. Therefore, re-mineralizing through proper oral hygiene is crucial. The organic ingredients in our dental powder are what make this product so supportive of healthier teeth and gums.
Calcium Bentonite Clay: A cleansing clay that naturally binds to and helps eliminate toxins, gently scrubbing and polishing the teeth. Its minerals help nourish gums and teeth and re-mineralize enamel. Nontoxic and rich in vital minerals that are found in your teeth and gums, including calcium and potassium.
Calcium Carbonate: a gentle abrasive, helps remove plaque, debris and surface stains.
- Magnesium Citrate: helps build strong enamel for and helps prevent the formation of cavities.
Shavegrass, Cloves, & Stevia powdered herbs: Shavegrass (you may know it as Horsetail) has exceptionally high sources of natural silica and other nutrients that are very good for strengthening teeth, hair, and bones.
Cloves not only taste great, but are contain natural anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial properties and helps relieve sore gums. Stevia is another mineral-rich, teeth-friendly herb and the tiniest amount helps sweeten the powder.
Essential Oils: Essential oils have an endless list of benefits (besides helping you forget you are brushing your teeth with clay!). Cinnamon; Cinnamaldehyde is what gives cinnamon its flavor and odor, and contains anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, which may reduce infections and help fight decay and bad breath. Fennel; provides important vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin K and folate. Folic acid is a synthetic form of folate, also known as vitamin B9. Studies have shown folic acid to be successful in reducing inflammation and bleeding in people with gingivitis, and may even prevent these issues from developing at all. Fennel is also a good source of other minerals such as iron, calcium, copper, zinc and selenium…and combined with a tiny amount of Wintergreen, it is great for your breath! Clove; experimental research suggests that eugenol, the primary chemical constituent of clove oil, has a number of different properties which contribute to its ability promote proper inflammatory response, be soothing, and have cleansing abilities that are particularly beneficial to the mouth, gums, and teeth.
Cleansing Tooth Powder can help whiten and strengthen your teeth while improving the health of your gums and mouth!
When brushing, move your brush in a circular motion downward from the gums. This helps loosen food and plaque that accumulates around the gum line. Brush the surfaces of the teeth in a downward motion to loosen food particles that settle between the teeth.
Remember to brush the surface of your tongue and the inside of your cheeks to get rid of built up bacteria.
Don’t forget to floss! When flossing, use a length of floss that you can wrap around your fingers several times, leaving enough floss to work in between each tooth, going up and down the sides of each tooth. Curve the floss in a C shape and work beneath the gum line a bit. Always use a clean part of the floss with each tooth. Do not re-use your floss.
Make Your Own Mouthwash
We agree that so much of the mouthwash on store shelves contains unwanted ingredients. You can make your own!
If you keep the ingredients in your bathroom cabinet, it is easy to mix up daily, as the mixture will not keep fresh for more than a day or so.
- For one person, mix 1/2 cup of filtered or distilled water, 2 teaspoons of baking soda, 2 drops of tea tree oil, 1 drop of peppermint, and 1 drop clove essential oil, into a glass jar or bottle. (For two or more people, increase amounts accordingly.) Mix or shake well to disperse essential oils before each use. Use 3-4 teaspoons to swish in your mouth for at least 60 seconds. Spit out…do not swallow. This should be enough to rinse with morning and evening. Store in your bathroom cabinet for the day with a lid on the jar or bottle, to keep out dust and debris.Baking soda helps alkalize the mouth which protects the teeth from acid damage, and helps eliminate bacteria. Tea tree, peppermint, and clove oil are effective antimicrobial, antiseptic bacteria fighters, and the peppermint and clove oil provide a fresh taste and breath freshener.
