Be prepared for shortages in hand sanitizers, by simply making your own.
What You’ll Need
- 12 oz. Organic Ethanol Alcohol 190-Proof – 95%. (The percentage is one half of the proof. So, 120 proof – 60%.) To be effective, your hand sanitizers need to contain at least 60% – 80% alcohol content to properly disinfect. Avoid using Isopropyl alcohol, if you can help it. https://organicalcohol.com
- 3 oz. Organic industrial 30% White Vinegar (Store bought white vinegar is only approximately 5%.) Available online or at a good hardware or agricultural store.
- 3 oz. Organic Aloe Vera Gel or Aloe Vera Juice. (Available online and at health food stores.)
- Essential oils: 20 drops Lemon, 10 drops Tea Tree, 10 drops Eucalyptus. (Available online or at health food stores.)
- Dispenser Bottle. (You can recycle a spray bottle, washing and sterilizing it first, or find some online or at your health food store.)
Let’s Make It
- Mix Aloe Vera gel or juice with alcohol and white vinegar.
- Add essential oils.
- Blend thoroughly.
- Pour into easy-to-dispense bottles, fine mist sprayer tops work well, and label.
Use It!
Shake well, before spraying. Spray two or three pumps onto clean hands. Rub in well, as if you are washing your hands. Let air-dry. Do not put on creams or lotions after sanitizing, unless they are 100% organic, as chemicals are better able to enter through the skin after applying a solvent like alcohol. Wait at least 30 minutes. Same goes with sales receipts…do not handle them after applying solvents (or ever really, as they are, according to researchers, coated in Bisphenol A, or BPA, a hazardous environmental toxin.)
What about using hydrogen peroxide instead of alcohol I understand that hydrogen peroxide is a healing agent and I think it might be better what are your thoughts
Alcohol is gentler on skin and disinfects immediately on contact. Hydrogen peroxide needs to sit for 5-10 minutes to be as effective. I do not use rubbing alcohol, just organic ethyl alcohol.
